André Lorenz Michiles é cineasta e diretor de fotografia brasileiro. Chegou ao cinema pela geografia. Talvez venha daí uma coisa que atravessa seus filmes desde o começo: para ele, um lugar nunca é apenas um fundo onde a história acontece.
Sua trajetória se construiu desde o início entre direção e fotografia, documentário e ficção. Em ambos, interessa-lhe construir o filme sem blindá-lo do mundo, deixando espaço para que as pessoas, os lugares, uma mudança de luz ou aquilo que acontece diante da câmera possam transformar o que havia sido imaginado.
Como diretor, codirigiu e fotografou Através, road movie Brasil-Cuba exibido nos festivais de Huelva, Brasília e no Festival de Cinema Latino-Americano de São Paulo. Atualmente finaliza O Rio Sabe o Nosso Nome, selecionado para o CineMundi WIP 2026, e desenvolve Floresta Fantasma, longa de ficção selecionado como Guion Inédito no Festival de Havana.
Como diretor de fotografia, assinou Segredos do Putumayo (Hot Docs, VIFF), trabalho pelo qual recebeu o Prêmio ABC de Melhor Fotografia em Documentário em 2023; O Rancho da Goiabada (48ª Mostra Internacional de Cinema de São Paulo); e Honestino (Festival do Rio, 49ª Mostra), de Aurélio Michiles, em que arquivo e testemunho convivem com cenas interpretadas por Bruno Gagliasso.
Foi selecionado para o Berlinale Talents Buenos Aires 2026.

André Lorenz Michiles is a Brazilian filmmaker and cinematographer. He came to cinema through geography. Perhaps something of that beginning still runs through his films: for him, a place is never simply a backdrop where a story happens.
His career has always moved between directing and cinematography, documentary and fiction. Across both, he is interested in making films without sealing them off from the world — leaving room for people, places, a shift in light, or whatever happens in front of the camera to transform what had been imagined.
As a director, he co-directed and shot Através (Through), a Brazil–Cuba road movie screened at the Huelva and Brasília film festivals and the São Paulo Latin American Film Festival. He is currently completing O Rio Sabe o Nosso Nome (The River Knows Our Name), selected for CineMundi WIP 2026, and developing Floresta Fantasma (Ghost Forest), a fiction feature selected for the Unproduced Screenplay section of the Havana Film Festival.
As a cinematographer, his work includes Segredos do Putumayo (Secrets from Putumayo) (Hot Docs, VIFF), for which he received the 2023 ABC Award for Best Documentary Cinematography; O Rancho da Goiabada, ou Pois É Meu Camarada, Fácil, Fácil Não É a Vida (The Marmalade Ranch, or Easy, Easy Life It Ain’t) (48th São Paulo International Film Festival); and Aurélio Michiles’ Honestino (Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival, 49th São Paulo International Film Festival), where archival material and testimony coexist with scenes performed by Bruno Gagliasso. O título internacional de Segredos é efetivamente Secrets from Putumayo, e The Marmalade Ranch, or Easy, Easy Life It Ain’t é o título inglês usado oficialmente no circuito de festivais.
